EKDIN
NANDINI
Script
: Sankar Basuthakur
Direction
: Dilip Basuthakur
Nandini
Mukherjee lived under the delusion that
life was only fun and frivolity-nothing
else.
She was rich, cultured and a devoted wife.
Nandini’s devotion to her husband was so
abject that it made her like a puppet on a
string.
She had humane feelings which failed to
find any expression. In fact Nandini
represents millions of our womenfolk who
suffer in silence and yet pretend to be
happy.
Then there was a tragic incident in the
family which shattered the fancy world of
Nandini. She finds herself face to face
with realities that help her to discover
the true spirit of human existence.

RASHOSUNDORI
KATHA
Script
and Direction- Sankar Basuthakur
The Play Rashosundri Katha is based
on the autobiography of Rashosundari Debi
who was born on 1810, in a wealthy family
of the then East Bengal. It was the first
autobiography ever written in Indian
languages by a lady and it was written at
a time when the concept of women education
was a sacrilege.
The autobiography vividly paints the
plight of women in the then Bengal. Women
as a whole were ostricised from receiving
education. They were doomed to be totally
illiterate and were debarred from social
interaction. It was she who registered a
silent protest by learning to read and
write secretly without anyone's help.
Rashosundari's Journey in educating
herself was a long and arduous process.
She was married at the age of twelve and
gave birth to twelve children and six of
them died early. The personal tragedy
failed to deter Rashosundari. She was
dedicated in her mission and after being
fully literate (Jitakshar) started writing
her autobiography raising a strong voice
in support of women education and
empowerment. This is unique because it was
done at a time when orthodox society was
indifferent and hostile to these vital
Issues.
Eshona's play RASHOSUNDARI KATHA is a
tribute to this great lady.

APARANHER
ALO
Script
: Sankar Basuthakur
Direction
: Dilip Basuthakur
Aparanher
Alo is that strange light which paints the
world in different patterns of colours
during sun set hours. The sky above, the
fields down below, the river, the trees,
bathe in this light regardless of the fact
that soon darkness will set in.
Akashay
Babu views old age as a new station of
life which provides an opportunity to get
one self pointed in the enchanting colours
of the sunset hours with malice to none
and love towards all. Bhakti bhusan and
Sarbojaya, his two close friends, share
this philosophy of life. But the rhythm is
disturbed with the appearance of Anadi
chakroborty at Pphool Doongri where the
previously mentioned three characters were
spending their retired life, Anadi had
deserted home with the feeling that his
son and daughter-in-law treated his
presence in the family as a burden. Now
under the leadership of Sarbojaya the four
elderly persons started a whirlpool of fan
and frivolity the vortex of which touched
the problem of old age in a society which
stands denuded of the values of joint
family system.

and they generate tension and noisy
outburst when they interact with one
another. But given a little patience and

symphony.

Kunta
Kinte, a sixteen yearold youth was torn
from his home land in Africa and brought
in torment and anguish to a farm in
Virginia. The white masters not only
subjected their slaves to worst form of
human degradation but also carried out a
systematic and sustained operation to wipe
out all traces of cultures and tradition
of the blacks. They wanted them to be
rootless to ensure permanent subjugation.
To
denude of a person of his identity is a
hidden face of colonialism.
But
Kunta could not reconcile himself to this
rootless and ghost like existence. He
wanted his daughter Kizzy and wife Bell to
nurture in their hearts the desire and
will to trace their real roots in Africa.
SHIKOR
is a Saga of man`s eternal search for
ROOTS.
